A Bank of America report said South Korea’s actual average annual wafer capacity growth is expected to remain below 10% because technology upgrades are leading to the closure of older plants.
According to Odaily, the report said this pace would fall short of the government’s goal of doubling capacity by 2030.
The report added that SK hynix’s additional memory capacity through 2028 may be only one-sixth of its original plan.
It also said the construction and equipment installation timelines for large new wafer fabs being built by Samsung and SK hynix in Gwangju and Jeolla could extend to 10 years.
