The UK government plans to introduce legally binding sales agreements earlier in the home-buying process in England and Wales, aiming to reduce “gazumping” and late-stage deal collapses, according to BBC. Housing Secretary Steve Reed said the reforms will be introduced by the end of this Parliament in 2029.

Under the proposals, sellers and estate agents would have to provide more upfront information on listed properties, including condition and whether the sale is part of a chain, via “sales packs”. The government estimates the changes will save buyers about £650 on average. Rightmove said it takes nearly six months (170 days) on average to complete a UK property sale and that more than one in five sales initially fall through.
