China's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 20.6 trillion yuan in January to May, up 1.4% year on year. According to Ming Pao, retail sales excluding automobiles rose 2.7%, while service retail sales increased 5.4%.
In May alone, the retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles hit a record 62.9%, mainland media reported, citing an official from the Ministry of Commerce's Department of Consumption Promotion.
