Disney’s Toy Story 5 delivered the animated franchise’s best-ever opening weekend, generating more than $300m (£227m) in global ticket sales, according to BBC. Released on 19 June, the film took over $160m in North America and more than $150m internationally in its first weekend.
With an estimated production budget of $250m, the film will need to make at least twice that amount to cover marketing and other costs. BBC said the Toy Story series has taken in more than $3bn at the global box office since 1995, with the third and fourth instalments each grossing more than $1bn.
