The board of the International Organization of Securities Supervision Commissions (IOSCO) has said that cryptocurrency ownership by retail investors has increased significantly since 2020 and called for more education for investors about the space.
According to a report, 15 of the 24 jurisdictions surveyed reported retail investors owning cryptocurrencies as high as 10% or more last year, while six reported cryptocurrency ownership as high as 30% or more.
"This is a sharp increase compared to 2020, when half of responding jurisdictions estimated that only 1 to 5 per cent or less of investors owned cryptocurrencies," IOSCO wrote. "The crypto asset space has been evolving since 2020."
