The three major U.S. stock indexes closed up and down, with the Dow down 0.75%, the Nasdaq up 1.26%, the S & P 500 up 0.4%, most popular technology stocks rose, NVIDIA rose more than 6%, ending three consecutive days of decline, Google, Meta, Tesla rose more than 2%. Semiconductors, automakers, and travel services rose the most. Carnival Cruise Line and Rivian rose more than 8%, Arm rose more than 6%, Norwegian Cruise Line rose more than 5%, Clay, Toyota Motor rose more than 3%, and ASML and Micron Technology rose more than 2%.
