JPMorgan Greater China chief economist Zhu Feng said China’s economy is not in a strong rebound but is instead in a stage of "controlled recovery."

He said first-half economic performance was relatively steady, while second-quarter growth eased. With policy support and high-tech manufacturing providing backing, Zhu expects quarter-on-quarter growth momentum in the third and fourth quarters to be better than in the second quarter, according to Ming Pao. He added that the basis remains in place for China to meet its full-year economic growth target, although further policy stimulus will be needed.
