According to Yonhap, South Korea's first project for investment in the United States under a bilateral trade deal is likely to be a power plant, government sources said Tuesday. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan said the two countries are in the final stage of talks focused on the energy sector, with details to be announced as early as next month.
The sources said the initial investment is likely to be a combined cycle power plant in the U.S. that could help meet rising electricity demand from artificial intelligence data centers. South Korea and the U.S. have been discussing projects under last year's trade deal, in which Seoul committed to invest US$350 billion in the U.S. with an annual cap of $20 billion.
