At a special news briefing on July 28, officials from China's National Development and Reform Commission said the 15th Five-Year Plan period will focus on improving China-Europe freight train operations, expanding diversified and resilient transport corridors, and supporting higher-quality development of the service, according to Jiemian News. Officials said China will continue to optimize the trains' operating model, improve customs clearance convenience, strengthen end-to-end schedule stability, expand the scope of scheduled services, and improve links among different transport modes. Liang Linchong, director of the commission's Department of Opening-up, said China will better coordinate rail, road, sea and air transport, open new multimodal routes, build more consolidation centers, expand hub-to-hub services, and improve collection and distribution systems. He added that China will deepen strategic coordination with countries along the routes, advance infrastructure connectivity, improve key border port handling capacity, optimize hub layouts, and promote mutual recognition of rules, regulations and standards.
