The NFL sent a letter to CFTC Chairman Michael Selig on July 27 in response to the agency’s draft rules for prediction markets, asking for stronger limits in several key areas. According to ChainCatcher, the league said protecting the integrity of games is its top priority and urged the CFTC to narrow the definition of high-risk contracts that may be easy to manipulate, depend on referee discretion, or have outcomes that can be known in advance.
The NFL also objected to the proposed 10-day preapproval window as too short. It asked the CFTC to clarify bans on insider trading, create a mandatory league-specific list of prohibited bettors, and revive earlier consumer protection proposals including bans on margin trading, restrictions on advertising, and a minimum age requirement of 21.
