The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Secret Service announced on July 21 that investigators recovered more than $25 million in cryptocurrency tied to international fraud schemes. According to NS3.AI, federal prosecutors also filed five civil forfeiture complaints seeking to take control of the recovered assets.
The largest complaint involved about $12.1 million linked to a romance scam that affected more than 200 victims. Authorities did not provide additional details on the other complaints.
