According to Yonhap, South Korea's laying hen and broiler chicken populations increased in the second quarter from a year earlier, helped by a rise in chick placements at local farms. The total number of laying hens was estimated at 78.98 million, up 1.6% year on year, while broilers climbed 1% to 110.8 million, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics. In contrast, beef cattle, including the Korean native breed hanwoo, fell 4.9% to 3.28 million as breeding cows declined. Dairy cattle also slipped 1.6% to 365,000, and pig numbers dropped 2.2% to 10.65 million.
