According to Yonhap, South Korean defense company LIG Defense & Aerospace (D&A) Co. said Tuesday it will team up with Airbus Helicopters to jointly develop next-generation unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the Farnborough International Airshow in Britain to co-develop next-generation UAS technologies.
Under the agreement, LIG D&A will integrate its sensors and weapon systems into Airbus' latest UAS platforms to build multi-role aerial solutions with improved intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The companies also plan to examine how artificial intelligence can be applied to unmanned aircraft systems and their ground control stations to improve mission endurance and operating efficiency.
