Argentine digital bank Ualá has completed a $197 million funding round led by Allianz Group's strategic investment arm, Allianz X, with Tether contributing $20 million. According to Odaily, the round was announced in March and valued Ualá at $3.2 billion.
Ualá said it has more than 11 million users and operates in Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. The company said it will use the funds for expansion in Latin America, with Mexico as a priority market.
Ualá founder and CEO Pierpaolo Barbieri said the investment does not include stablecoin integration on the platform. He said the bank operates as a licensed bank in relevant markets, where regulatory rules restrict this type of integration.
