According to Axios, a House amendment that would have prevented any State Department funding from going to Israel failed in a 104-314 vote on Wednesday, with 10 members voting present. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and 97 other Democrats opposed the measure, while Minority Whip Katherine Clark, 102 other Democrats, and the amendment's sponsor, Rep. Thomas Massie, voted for it. The proposal drew sharp Democratic divisions because it contained no carveout for non-military funding, and some lawmakers said they could not support cutting off diplomatic funding even as others backed it as a signal over Israel's conduct in Gaza and Lebanon.
