According to Yonhap, South Korea's presidential National Security Council standing committee held a meeting Thursday to discuss trade and security issues with the United States, with National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac presiding. Officials from the finance ministry, trade ministry and the anti-trust watchdog attended, and South Korean Ambassador to the U.S. Kang Kyung-wha was reportedly present.

Wi stressed the need for close coordination among government ministries to craft response measures based on a common understanding and said the South Korea-U.S. relationship must be handled through an integrated government response on both trade and security. The meeting came amid continued complaints from Washington over an investigation into a major data leak involving the South Korean affiliate of U.S.-listed e-commerce giant Coupang. Kang said the Coupang issue had lasted longer than she expected and that the two countries were separately working to advance agreements reached by President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump at their summit last year.
