According to CNBC, Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman exchanged insults in posts on X amid their long-running dispute over OpenAI’s shift from a nonprofit to a for-profit structure. Musk previously sued OpenAI and Altman in a California case that went to trial this year; a jury ruled in Altman’s favor and Musk said he would appeal.
Weeks later, SpaceX completed an initial public offering that raised $75 billion, and OpenAI has filed confidentially for its own IPO. SpaceX this week released its Grok 4.5 generative AI model, while OpenAI debuted GPT-5.6 Sol. The latest back-and-forth followed a post about Apple filing suit against OpenAI on Friday over alleged theft of trade secrets; an OpenAI spokesperson said the company has no interest in other companies’ trade secrets.
