A preliminary on-chain investigation into the BONK DAO governance attack found funding exposure between suspected attacker-linked addresses and wallets associated with the Realms founder and Crypto Notte.
According to ChainCatcher, on-chain security researcher Specter said the suspected attacker created a malicious governance proposal on June 30, 2026, using a specific address.
Specter said the proposal was structured to pass only after securing voting power equivalent to 1% of BONK’s circulating supply. He added that the attacker acquired the required voting power between July 4 and July 5 through exchange purchases and by borrowing via marginfi, with the borrowing totaling about $4 million.
