According to CNBC, BrainCo raised 2 billion yuan ($280 million) in a funding round co-led by IDG Capital and Walden International, the venture firm founded by Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Founded in 2015 out of the Harvard Innovation Labs, BrainCo develops non-invasive brain-computer interface technology, including U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved bionic hands that read neural and muscular electrical signals to translate intended movements into finger motions, as well as wearable devices such as a sleep aid that the company says uses low-intensity electrical pulses. Partner and senior vice president Nyx He said the company plans to expand from amputees into conditions such as ADHD and depression, then into consumer electronics, and eventually license its BCI platform to other companies.
