South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, weeks after featuring for his country at the World Cup, according to Yahoo Sports. Adams played in all three of South Africa’s group matches as they reached the knockout stages before losing to co-hosts Canada in the round of 32.
South Africa’s minister of sport, arts and culture Gayton McKenzie said the cause of death had not been confirmed and urged restraint from speculation. Police said they opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was found at a house in Schotschekloof, a suburb in central Cape Town, on Saturday morning. The South African Football Players Union said Adams, who debuted for South Africa in 2022, had recently represented the national team at the 2026 World Cup.
