According to CNBC, OpenAI President Greg Brockman has become the company’s top executive overseeing its key product and business efforts after product and business chief Fidji Simo stepped down on Thursday due to chronic illness. Simo, a former Meta executive and ex-CEO of Instacart, said she will move to a part-time advisor role after taking medical leave in April; she was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) in 2019.
Brockman, an OpenAI co-founder, will oversee the ChatGPT product business as well as go-to-market, enterprise and compute initiatives, a person familiar with the plans said. Brockman reports to CEO Sam Altman; finance chief Sarah Friar and strategy chief Jason Kwon will also report to Altman, and the company does not plan to hire a replacement for Simo, the person said. The report said OpenAI confidentially filed its prospectus with regulators in June as it prepares for an IPO, and that ChatGPT’s market share fell below 50% for the first time in March, citing Sensor Tower.
