Iran’s Supreme Leader’s foreign affairs adviser Ali Akbar Velayati said any risk-taking behavior would be met with an immediate response. According to Jin10, Velayati wrote on social media that Iran had previously warned that the region was not a place for smaller countries to engage in political gambling.
Velayati said Iran had repeatedly demonstrated that any adventurous actions would receive an immediate response. He added that responsibility for recently creating tensions lay with certain parties, which he said had publicly acknowledged abolishing a memorandum of understanding that had previously been violated multiple times in practice. He said this move had again pushed the regional situation to a dangerous edge.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on July 8, while attending a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, that he believed the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran had “ended.” In response to reporters’ questions, Trump said he believed the memorandum had ended and that he would inform U.S. negotiators. Trump also said he did not want to deal with Iran anymore.
