French President Emmanuel Macron said on July 3 that France will adjust its military deployment in the Middle East due to positive developments in the regional situation and changing needs, according to Jiemian News. Macron said France has deployed mine-clearing forces in the region, including two minehunters supported by two frigates and a maritime patrol aircraft, and that these forces are ready to work with partner countries to help fully restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and ensure maritime traffic security.
Macron said a memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran on June 17 was an important step toward regional stability and reaffirmed freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that after constructive exchanges with the Sultan of Oman, France decided to adjust its posture, including sending the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle back to its home port of Toulon while keeping the mine-clearing forces and their escorts deployed.
