Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand renewed calls to ban politicians and their spouses from issuing or promoting crypto assets after U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed more than $1.2 billion in crypto income last year.
According to NS3.AI, the proposed restriction would also apply to meme coins, including a Solana-based meme coin that reportedly earned Trump more than $635 million.
Gillibrand’s comments follow the disclosure and focus on limiting elected officials’ involvement in crypto-related promotions and issuances.
