South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has referred around 40 unregistered virtual asset service providers to law enforcement agencies.

According to NS3.AI, the FIU said these businesses fall outside the country’s Virtual Asset User Protection Act and the Specified Financial Transaction Information Act.

The FIU said the unregistered providers are vulnerable to risks including personal data leaks, hacking, money laundering, and the concealment of criminal funds.
