Aztec said it has met L2beat’s Stage 2 Rollup standard after on-chain governance formally revoked ownership of its rollup contracts, making the protocol code immutable and preventing any administrator from intervening.
According to Foresight News, Aztec said users can withdraw and exit at any time through an “escape hatch” mechanism.
Aztec also said it is currently the only decentralized Layer 2 network that natively integrates privacy protection at the protocol layer.
The L2beat Stage 2 rating is described as an important measure of decentralization for Ethereum Layer 2 networks. Aztec said reaching this stage indicates the project has removed key centralized control and that protocol security no longer depends on the operator.
