Quantstamp published a technical breakdown of a bug in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool that could have allowed undetectable minting of shielded ZEC for roughly four years. According to NS3.AI, Shielded Labs said there is no cryptographic proof that can demonstrate whether the bug was exploited.
A proposal dated June 4 would address the issue by creating a new shielded pool and applying turnstile accounting to track coins leaving Orchard. The changes would be subject to governance approval.
