Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said an Iranian delegation ended negotiations in Switzerland and left the venue after he learned of threat remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump toward Iran.

According to Jin10, Ghalibaf said that on June 22, an Iranian delegation led by him departed Switzerland and returned to Iran. He said that after learning of Trump’s remarks, he told U.S. Vice President Vance at the negotiation venue that Iran would not negotiate under threats or coercion by force.

Ghalibaf said the Iranian delegation then terminated the talks, left the venue, and did not return to the negotiating table.

He added that the delegation only held discussions and a wrap-up with mediators Pakistan and Qatar, referring to a joint statement issued later that day by Qatar and Pakistan.

Ghalibaf said Iran “did not trust Americans in the past and does not trust them now,” adding that, given Iran’s position and its view of the situation, such distrust was “reasonable.”
