U.S. manufacturing activity expanded again in June, supported by companies placing orders early to avoid shortages and price increases, while factory employment fell to a six-year low as Middle East conflict-related cost pressures raised operating expenses.

According to Odaily, the preliminary S&P Global U.S. Manufacturing PMI rose to 55.7 in June from 55.1 in May, the highest level since May 2022. Economists surveyed by Reuters had expected the index to decline to 54.8.

The preliminary services PMI increased to 51.3 in June from 50.7 in May. Together, the manufacturing and services readings lifted the composite PMI output index to 52.2 from 51.5 the prior month.

The report said the rebound in services activity was partly attributed to the World Cup jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
