The Consumer Technology Association, which represents more than 1,200 technology companies, urged the U.S. Senate to pass the CLARITY Act without delay.
According to NS3.AI, Senator Cynthia Lummis said the bill would end the “absurdity” of software developers needing lawyers to determine whether shipping code is a crime.
The proposed legislation would divide digital-asset oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. It would also add protections for open-source developers and developers working on self-custody tools.
