Japan’s Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama held an emergency online meeting with U.S. Treasury officials on the evening of June 22 local time, as the yen approached its weakest level in 39 years.
According to ChainCatcher, citing a Jin10 report, sources said Katayama may have discussed foreign-exchange market trends and the possibility of currency intervention with U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent.
The report followed a sharp intraday drop in the U.S. dollar against the Japanese yen (USD/JPY), which fueled market speculation that Japanese authorities may have already intervened in the currency market.
