French police arrested four suspects in and around Marseille in connection with an attempted kidnapping-style robbery targeting cryptocurrency-related assets, local media reported.
According to ChainCatcher, the incident occurred at about 3:00 AM on June 13, 2026, when suspects broke into a residence in Marseille’s 13th arrondissement and tried to seize two women to obtain crypto-related assets. A nearby family was awakened by noise and immediately alerted police, prompting the suspects to flee, leaving investigators with a vehicle license plate lead.
Police said crypto-related kidnapping and extortion cases have been rising in France, with about 70 incidents recorded since the start of 2026. Authorities said such crimes typically target crypto asset holders and their family members and have become increasingly targeted and violent.
