CFTC Chair Michael Selig Appoints Donald Battle and J. Matthew Haws to Senior Roles

CFTC Chair Michael Selig announced two personnel appointments, naming Donald Battle as chief data innovation officer and J. Matthew Haws as a senior adviser in the chair’s office and Chicago regional lead. According to Foresight News, Battle will join the agency’s data division and serve as a member of its innovation task force.

Battle previously served at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a senior adviser to Commissioner Hester Peirce’s crypto task force. He also worked in the SEC Enforcement Division’s data science group as an assistant director, with experience in blockchain forensics, data science, and AI solutions. Earlier, he served at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a virtual currency enforcement official.

Haws has more than 13 years of experience advising on derivatives regulatory matters for global financial institutions. His prior roles include senior legal counsel at Marex and partner at the law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman.
