The National Tax Agency of Japan announced today the results of the 2024 tax survey, which showed that a total of 613 field investigations were carried out on cryptocurrency trading individuals, and the total amount of tax recovered was about 4.60 billion yen, an increase of about 31.4% from the previous year's 3.50 billion yen. The number of investigations also increased by about 14.6% year-on-year. The National Tax Agency pointed out that cryptocurrency-related cases were significantly higher than the overall average level of income tax field surveys in terms of single tax recovery and the amount of unreported income.
The current tax investigation focuses on the accuracy of profit and loss calculations, the completeness of transaction records, and the reporting and processing of special transactions such as DeFi, airdrops, mining, and pledges; if multiple domestic and foreign exchanges are involved, all profits and losses need to be declared together, otherwise it may be identified as an omission of declaration.
