On November 2nd, on October 30th, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Canada's Minister of International Trade Sidhu in Gyeongju, South Korea. The two sides exchanged views on China-Canada economic and trade relations and economic and trade issues of their respective concerns. Wang Wentao said that China and Canada's economies are highly complementary and trade development momentum is strong. The sustained and stable growth of China's economy will create more opportunities for China-Canada economic and trade cooperation. In the next stage, it is hoped that the two sides will actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to give play to the role of the China-Canada Economic and Trade Joint Committee and the working groups under it, and actively expand practical cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and energy. Strengthen communication and exchanges between the political and business circles, promote local economic and trade cooperation, and further strengthen people-to-people Wang Wentao pointed out that both China and Canada are important members of the WTO. In the context of the current international trade order facing serious impacts from unilateralism and protectionism, the two countries should strengthen multilateral and regional coordination and cooperation, firmly safeguard the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, and jointly respond to global challenges.
