Hanoi police have seized $34 million worth of assets belonging to Nguyen Hoa Binh, the chairperson of Vietnamese technology company NextTech, in a cryptocurrency fraud case. The seized items include 597 gold bars, 18 property title certificates and two vehicles.
Binh and nine others face charges of fraudulent misappropriation of assets and accounting violations related to the AntEx cryptocurrency project. Police allege that Binh and his associates raised the equivalent of $4.50 million in 2021 by selling 33.20 billion tokens to 30,000 investors.
Authorities said the funds were then withdrawn, exchanged into local currency and distributed among the gang, with some of the funds being diverted to companies linked to NextTech. Binh is also accused of instructing employees to conceal Nextland Real Estate's income by keeping two sets of books. The investigation is ongoing and police said further charges are likely.
