MUFG will issue Japan's first blockchain bond

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) plans to issue its first blockchain bond on November 11, 2025, with a size of 10 billion yen (approximately $65.4 million). The bond is an unsecured subordinated bond and will be credited to the bank's Tier 2 capital. The bond is underwritten by MUFG Morgan Stanley Securities, and the transfer must be completed through MUFG Morgan Stanley and recorded on the Progmat blockchain. It cannot be used as collateral. MUFG hopes to attract digital asset investors and promote the development of Japanese capital markets through this issuance.
