Speaking at a press conference after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points, Fed chairperson Jerome Powell pointed out that the labour market was showing increasing signs of weakness. "Demand for labour has slowed and the recent pace of job creation appears to be below the equilibrium point needed to keep the unemployment rate stable," he said. He added: "I can no longer say that the labour market is very solid." Looking ahead to future rate adjustments, Mr. Powell expressed caution, saying the Fed was now in a "meeting-by-meeting decision" situation.
