US tech giant pledges to invest more than $40 billion in UK

Several big US tech companies said they would spend more than $40 billion to expand Britain's AI infrastructure, a major boon for the country ahead of Trump's state visit. Microsoft (MSFT. O) said on Tuesday it would invest $30 billion in Britain's AI infrastructure and existing operations by 2028, its biggest financial commitment in the country. Google (GOOG. O) said it would spend about $6.80 billion in the UK over the next two years on AI, research and development and related engineering. Meanwhile, NVIDIA (NVDA. O), OpenAI and British company Nscale are teaming up to build artificial intelligence infrastructure in the UK to meet OpenAI's computing power needs. The project, dubbed Stargate (UK), is expected to be based in the north-east of the UK, using tens of thousands of Nvidia's Grace Blackwell Ultra graphics processing units. Among other investments, AI cloud computing company CoreWeave plans to spend about $2.04 billion on AI data center capacity and operations in the UK. Salesforce has announced it will invest an additional $2 billion in its UK operations by 2030, while BlackRock will invest £500 million in data centers across the UK.
