Tesla Inc (TSLA. O) was accused in a lawsuit on Friday of favoring visa holders over U.S. citizens in its employment decisions in order to pay lower wages, according to foreign media reports. According to a proposed class-action lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco, Tesla violated federal civil rights laws by "systematically preferentially hiring" visa holders and dismissing U.S. citizens with disproportionate frequency. The complaint alleges that Tesla relies on H-1B visa holders, for example, in 2024, the company hired about 1,355 visa holders while laying off more than 6,000 people domestically, the "vast majority" of whom are considered U.S. citizens. The lawsuit seeks to claim for all U.S. citizens who applied for Tesla jobs in the U.S. but were not hired, or who were fired after working at Tesla. (Jin Ten)
