John Deaton, a lawyer and legal advocate for XRP, said the XRP Army - an online community that continued to support the cryptocurrency during the downturn - played a role in Ripple's successful resolution of its legal dispute with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC).
On X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Deaton pointed out that the thousands of affidavits written by self-proclaimed members of the XRP Army, a type of written statement that can be used as evidence in court, and submitted to the court were one of the reasons Ripple won a partial victory in the dispute over whether XRP was a security.
Since 2020, Ripple and two of its executives have been sued for allegedly offering unregistered securities through the sale of XRP, and the SEC's legal dispute with Ripple has continued for nearly half a decade.
