Shanghai: Temporary exemption from property tax for the first set of housing purchased by eligible non-resident households

On August 25th, Shanghai 6 departments announced that they will improve the property tax policy for individual housing. In order to connect and optimize the housing purchase restriction policy, the "Notice" stipulates that the first set of housing purchased by eligible non-resident families in this city will be temporarily exempted from property tax; the second set and above of housing purchased will be given a tax-free area of 60 square meters per capita after the combined calculation of the total housing area of the family. Since the property tax for individual housing is levied annually, eligible buyers can enjoy this policy from January 1, 2025.
