Before Powell's speech, the U.S. stock index rose slightly

The Dow was up 0.37 percent, the S & P 500 was up 0.23 percent and the Nasdaq was up 0.19 percent. NVIDIA (NVDA. O) fell 1.2 percent after it reported that the company had asked suppliers to suspend production of H20 chips. Google (GOOG. O) rose 1.7 percent after Meta reached a large order with Google for $10 billion cloud computing services. The Nasdaq China Golden Dragon was up 0.47 percent.
