Situational Awareness, a hedge fund founded by 23-year-old artificial intelligence (AI) influencer and former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, has bought a large stake in bitcoin miner Core Scientific.
According to a regulatory filing on Tuesday, the fund disclosed that it had acquired a 5.8% ownership stake in 17.70 million shares of the bitcoin mining and data center operator. The fund increased its stake in Core Scientific between July 18 and August 13.
The fund said in the filing that it bought the shares because it believed they were undervalued and an attractive investment opportunity, adding that it could increase or decrease its holdings in the future depending on market conditions, the performance of Core Scientific or broader industry dynamics.
