Powell's speech may focus on the labor market and policy path

In a note, Mabrouk Chetouane, head of global market strategy at Orient Investment Management, said Fed Chairperson Jerome Powell's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium, which this year's theme is "Labour Markets in Transition: Demographics, Productivity and Macroeconomic Policy", was likely to focus on Mr. Powell's comments on the US monetary policy roadmap for the rest of the year. Despite the pick-up in inflationary pressures, Mr. Powell may need to explain why the policy focus has shifted to the employment target and put inflation on the back burner.
