Analysis: Norway's sovereign wealth fund has doubled its exposure to bitcoin, and the sovereign fund is trending towards cryptocurrency

Norway's sovereign wealth fund, the world's largest state-led wealth fund, increased its indirect exposure to bitcoin by 192 per cent last year, according to K33 Research, a cryptocurrency research firm. The fund holds 7,161 bitcoins indirectly through its portfolio, which includes holding company Strategy, Metaplanet and cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. Norway's increase in its bitcoin holdings reflects a broader trend: sovereign wealth funds are gaining indirect exposure through bitcoin investment vehicles and corporate agents as the world's first cryptocurrency becomes integrated into the traditional financial system. Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth fund announced plans in July to convert some of its assets into cryptocurrencies.
