The European Union said that even if President Trump announced new tariffs on semiconductors entering the United States, the tariff cap on chips exported from the European Union to the United States would still be 15 percent. Olof Gill, a spokesperson for the European Union, said Thursday that Washington had committed that the 15 percent tariff cap would apply to European Union semiconductor exports regardless of what tariffs the United States imposes on other exporters.
