"Fed megaphone": Trump's visit to the Fed becomes a political show

Nick Timiraos, the Fed's mouthpiece, wrote that Mr. Trump's rare visit to the Fed building on Thursday afternoon amounted to a political show designed to increase pressure on the central bank as part of an unconventional campaign to tarnish the public image of Fed chairperson Jerome Powell and push for interest rate cuts. For a president who has built his brand on real estate projects and reality TV, the visit provided a TV-appropriate moment to cast Powell - Trump's self-picked chairperson of the Fed eight years ago - as an inept bureaucrat overseeing a $2.50 billion, cost-overrun renovation. Stifel strategist Brian Gardner said the focus on renovating the Fed building could also divert attention from the Epstein case.
