The US and French police departments only hold about 29,000 bitcoins, much lower than expected

According to documents obtained by independent crypto journalist L0la L33tz through the Freedom of Information Act, as of March this year, the U.S. Marshals Service held only 28,988 bitcoins, or about $3.40 billion, far below the market's widely believed holdings. Earlier estimates put the U.S. government's overall cryptoasset holdings as high as $25 billion. The Trump administration has ordered the transfer of bitcoin held by federal agencies to the Treasury Department for management and the establishment of a "strategic bitcoin reserve."
