Trump: Not considering extending tariff negotiation deadline, could raise Japan tariffs

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was not considering extending the July 9 deadline for countries to negotiate a trade deal with the US and cast doubt on whether a deal could be reached with Japan. "We've dealt with Japan," Mr. Trump said. "I'm not sure we can make a deal. I doubt it." Mr. Trump said he could impose tariffs of "30 per cent, 35 per cent or whatever we decide" on imports from Japan, well above the 24 per cent rate he announced on April 2.
